Blue Monday: How our PASHNISTA’s beat the blues

It’s that time of year again, the comedown from all the end of year festivities has well and truly hit, and we’re crawling to payday (or is it all made up by marketers to have something to blog about in January?).

Either way, people keep talking about it, so we asked our team to provide their top tips on beating the blues:

Adam - Don't listen to depressing music (keep Jan as uplifting as possible), avoid news about the US, and go to the gym more.  Yoga helps, as do spin classes!!  Having a mate at the gym to keep you going works wonders for mind and soul!  And this Jan I'm dry - steering clear of beer for the month to counter some Xmas calories and to put best foot forward.

Ella – I hate to admit but eating well and exercising more actually does work, despite this, I am in fact food motivated so would highly recommend taking an evening to cook yourself a labour-of-love kind of dinner. The obvious next step (for me) is to do a yoga class or go for a run, getting out of your head and into your body. Finally, re-watching an old classic (Dirty Dancing, Mean Girls, The Devil Wears Prada etc) always helps, especially if you can watch from the comfort of a bubble bath or bed!

Harry – It’s a constant reminder that Jan can be the worst of all months, blue Monday and living mainly in darkness it can be hard to stay positive. I tend to try and maximise exercise and reading as much as possible. I have been keeping up with regular swimming, which always makes me feel better about myself generally. However, If I’m feeling stressed, I’ll look straight for something that can take me out of the moment, which usually means reading or if I’m feeling lazy maybe some gaming! (I’ve been hooked on Bob Mortimer’s new book ‘The Long Shoe’ recently.

Nikkie – If I need to get out of a funk I like to go for a walk around the village listening to a good podcast. I like to switch off and stop thinking about whatever is getting me down and just take in what's around me and listen to someone else talking for an hour or so. If that hasn't worked, getting cosy and watching a crap 00s rom-com never fails!

Pippa – My favourite thing to beat Blue Monday would be reformer Pilates, especially early in the morning. It is always difficult getting out of bed but worth it once you're finished and have the whole day ahead of you! This must always be followed with coffee and a sweet treat. Always.

David – For me, a jog or a walk in the countryside is always the first point of call! If the weather isn't on side, as it often isn't in January, then going for a long drive through some country lanes to a nice pub with a fire is a good second option.

So that’s how we’re taking care this blue Monday, but also whenever we’re needing a little pep in our step! If you take on any of these tips, we hope you enjoy, and take care 🫶🫰
